I was born and raised in the Central Valley, where my farm-working parents taught me the value of hard work. I attended Delano High School, Bakersfield College and University of Phoenix. Currently, I work in the Community Development Department at Self Help Enterprises, in Visalia. My entire career has focused on improving the lives of the people of the Central Valley through public policy and advocacy work. I am serving my second term on the Earlimart School District Board of Trustees. As School Board President, I work to provide a quality education for every child and ensure that teachers have the supplies they need in the classroom. In my day job, I work to bring funding to our local communities to fix our roads and clean our drinking water. My experience working on local projects has thought me that when we work together, we can make real progress. In Earlimart, the school district and County of Tulare came together through a JPA to secure $2.4 million to build the first ever state of the art community park in town, we need more of this kind of collaboration in the Central Valley.
As a parent, I understand the need for affordable, quality health insurance. I believe in healthcare for all because no one should have to choose between buying medicine and buying food. In the State Senate, I will fight for improvements and resources to come here instead of other parts of the State. It would be my honor to have your vote.
The greatest investment that we can make in our children is providing them with a quality education. We must invest more in our public schools to shrink classroom sizes, increase the use of technology in classrooms and support after school programs. I will work to expand access to community college, vocational training and apprenticeship programs to ensure that every child can access an affordable, quality higher education and be prepared to enter the workforce.
Healthcare for All
We all deserve affordable, quality healthcare. Parents should not worry about the cost of a doctor’s visit when their child is sick, families should never have to choose between buying medicine and buying food. I will fight for the healthcare that we all need and deserve.
Creating Better Jobs
The Central valley needs more good paying jobs. I am committed to attracting new businesses to the area as well as supporting local infrastructure projects that will create jobs for local laborers. I support vocational training and apprenticeship programs that will result in people getting high-wage jobs.
